Steve + Katie

Steve & Katie had a mutual friend. This friend, who happened to live out of state at the time, suggested that Katie look up Steve and give him a call. Katie says "like Facebook stalking!?!?!" Finally after much pushing & prodding the two finally met. And the rest is history...

Katie & Steve actually aren't married yet! July 9th is the big day, but this is their Open House at the Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, NV. Katie planned some lovely vintages details, such as the antique spoons and feathers in her bouquet, the teapots for table centerpieces, and the use of silver/pewter throughout. Katie herself is a classic beauty. Congrats you two!!!

It was sooooo super windy. We tried to hide, but the wind found us even in the tunnel!

Published in the Wyoming Woman Magazine!

I love breakfast. I really do. But I hardly ever make it. Yep, it's cereal & milk at this house. I'm not fully awake and, ahem, pleasant until after I eat breakfast, so I usually go for whatever can be made fairly quickly. But I do love breakfast. French toast... sausage... scrambled eggs... and fruit of course. I need a personal chef, I think.

A few months back, I had the opportunity to shoot for the Wyoming Woman Magazine. Chef Extraordinaire Sylvia Harber regularly contributes recipes, and wow, are they delicious. The Pecan French Toast was just divine and the Sunrise Strata has just the right amount of kick to it. And Sylvia & I have the same place settings (the orange fireflower plates). She received her set as a wedding present, I inherited my set when my great-grandmother passed away. So fun!
The recipe for the quiche-style Sunrise Strata can be found here.

Growing Up

This guy is growing up fast. I had an idea for his birthday session and it morphed into a sibling session. With this year's Primary theme being "Putting on the Armor of God" and the recent Peter Pan show, the "imaginative play" session was born and grew into super awesome baptism announcements and a giant canvas!!

One of the things I find so appealing about the canvases is that the image wraps around and there is no need for a frame. Artsy, yet minimalistic at the same time.
She loves playing dress up these days...

Ina May is a Fan of Birth Photographers!

....in a round about way :)

I just finished a fantastic book - Birth Matters by Ina May Gaskin. (I love her books and her Guide to Childbirth I refer to everone I know!) Chapter 7 is devoted to the dads! A paragraph on page 172 particularly stuck out to me:

"Our mainstream culture outlines a rather limited role for new fathers: the distibution of cigars to relatives and friends. We have also seen a role that is frequently shown on the television birth shows - father-to-be as photographer. I have observed (and have also heard several fathers report) that being the photographer of the labor and birth often has the effect of separating him from the feelings and the reality of the event. Maybe it feels safer for him at the moment, but while he may be happy to have a few photos, he often feels a sense of loss from having separated himself from the immediacy of this important event in his life. At any rate, this is something to think about. "
I'll be the first to say, it is very easy to hide behind a camera, no doubt about it!!! After having my husband as the photographer for three births and hiring on the fourth, I can also say it's much better to assign that job of photographing to someone other than Dad. Laboring Mama's need their men.

Little Moments at Home

Have you ever just watched, I mean really watched, a kiddo's face as he's telling you a story or playing with his favorite toy, or smiling at his mama? I am amazed everytime I stop and take the time to watch. Kids are sooooo cool and do the funniest, cutest, smartest things.

Love it!

Two Little Trouble-Makers

Honestly, these two are super sweethearts, but really, doesn't this first image just feel like you caught them red-handed???? :)
Mischevious, I tell you.

Christa wanted to use the apricot tree in her backyard. The tree was so full and the fruit so ripe, Poor Cash was sitting amongst fruit flies and squishy fruit! It was slightly unpleasant, but it did make gorgeous images!
See? Sweethearts, I tell you.
